Job Description

BKYP aims to give young people living in the Bradford Metropolitan District, between the ages of 11 and 21 years old (inclusive) a voice, which will be heard and listened to by local and national government, service providers for young people and other agencies who have an interest in the views, needs and concerns of young people.

Anyone living in the Bradford Metropolitan District, aged 11 to 21 (inclusive) can stand for election. If elected their role will be:

  • To listen to and respect the views of all young people elected members and providers of young people's services.
  • To listen to young people's views and voice them at local, district wide and national levels.
  • To encourage the involvement of all young people irrespective of their background and experience.
  • To liaise with informal young people's groups such as friendship and interest groups.
  • To liaise with established young people's groups such as Neighbourhood Forums, Committees and School Councils.
  • To be aware of local, district and national issues, especially those affecting young people.
  • To attend meetings as organised by BKYP.
  • To adhere to the BKYP code of conduct.

How BKYP Works

  • BKYP will hold an annual, district wide youth conference.
  • Young people bring their concerns & discuss them at the youth conference. They will then vote on the top 3 concerns they want BKYP to work on. This will then become the workload of MYPs.
  • MYPs will rendezvous (meet) in the 5 areas of the district; young people are encouraged to attend. At the rendezvous’ MYPs will be working towards finding solutions and action planning.
  • Items on the council forward plan, which relate to the concerns of youth conference will be identified & MYPs will input appropriately.
  • MYPs will work with elected members & others enabling them to raise concerns, present ideas & influence decisions.

BKYP aims to:

  • Create a space for young people to influence decisions, which affect their lives.
  • Bring young people together by holding a bi annual youth conference where they will identify & Vote on the top 3 issues they want BKYP to work on.
  • Organise rendezvous (meetings/sessions) where young people will, action plan & look for solutions to sorting out the issues agreed at the youth conference.
  • Build relationships with young people, elected members, decision makers and organisation who can work together to improve the district.
  • Work with elected members & others to influence decisions...
  • Make Bradford a better place to live for everyone.
